Today is the feast of St Francis de Sales who was bishop of Geneva, died in 1622, and was canonised in 1665. Famed for his writing and preaching, he was a great ecumenical preacher of the Truth, advocated holiness for all states of life, and wrote with wisdom and gentle humour. He was and declared a Doctor of the Church in 1877 by Pope Blessed Pius IX. My sermon for today's feast can be read here. This image of the saint is in the Bologna Oratory.
